AI Agents · BMaiKR Team ·

AI voice agents have become good enough that many callers will not immediately notice they are talking to software. For businesses that miss calls outside office hours, or spend hours a week on scheduling, that is a real opportunity. It also raises the cost of getting the setup wrong, because a bad phone experience costs you the customer on the spot.
These are the five things we check before a voice agent takes real calls.
1. Tell callers they are talking to an AI
Disclose it at the start of the call. Callers who find out halfway through feel misled, and in the EU the AI Act's transparency rules require that people are told when they are interacting with an AI system. A short, friendly sentence is enough.
2. Be clear about recording and transcripts
Most voice platforms record or transcribe calls. That is personal data. Decide whether you need recordings at all, tell callers if they are made, decide how long they are kept, and know which provider stores them and where. If you cannot answer those questions, you are not ready to go live.
3. Connect it to the real calendar
A voice agent that collects a preferred time and promises someone will "confirm later" has only moved the work. It should read live availability, book the slot, and send a confirmation. Test double bookings, cancellations and requests outside opening hours before launch.
4. Give it a way out
Every call flow needs an exit to a human: a transfer during office hours, or a promise of a callback with the caller's number and reason recorded. Callers who are stuck in a loop with a bot remember it.
5. Test with real accents, background noise and impatience
Script tests in a quiet room are misleading. Have people call from a car, a busy shop, with strong regional accents, and interrupt the agent mid-sentence. Fix what breaks before customers find it.
Where voice fits
Voice works best for clear, repetitive tasks: booking, rescheduling, opening hours, simple intake questions. It is weaker for complex advice or emotional conversations, which should go to a person. Our Aiko voice agent is designed for the first category and hands over the second.
